Weekend Recap: Part III of III

Finally!

Weekend Recap: Part I of III
Weekend Recap: Part II of III

On Sunday morning, Matthew and I were determined to get up and go hiking in the Rocky Mountains. We woke up early and hit the road to Estes Park.

"Do I have to get up this early too?"

I don't want to leave the hotel :(
The weather was gorgeous, sunny and a high of upper 50's for the afternoon. It made for a beautiful drive into the mountains.

But much to our surprise, as soon as we got into the park and about halfway up the mountain we ran into this....

SNOW! And lots of it!

So our hike was pretty freakin cold. We drove out to the trail head of Glacier Gorge and took off in the direction  of Bear Lake (all bundled up).

When we got to Bear Lake, it was obviously frozen over but a beautiful sight.

After sometime at Bear Lake, we decided to go a little further and head to Alberta Falls.

It was a first to see a waterfall almost completely frozen. Our time was running out so we headed back to the car and back down the mountain, where we ran into these fellas:

Elk! Matthew was so excited that we came across this herd. We're pretty sure its the 40 member herd of elk that is so popular in Rocky Mountain National Park. A great way to leave the mountains!

And it was back on the road to Nebraska...

Now were back and Omaha and back to real life. I miss Colorado already. :(
