On Friday (at 12:01am) I attended the premier of Hunger Games with some girlfriends. It was a good movie, followed the book really well, and the acting was better than I expected. I think I would have enjoyed the movie more though if I would not have seen it in the middle of the night, but none the less it was a fun experience.
After three hours of sleep, I got up Friday morning and headed over to Creighton to volunteer with Project Homeless Connect. Project Homeless Connect offers a one day one-stop-shop for local homeless people to come in and receive the services that would either be too expensive, or too hard to navigate around the city to find. There was everything from doctor's doing check-ups, dentists, legal advice, housing help, to hair cuts. Each "guest" that came to take advantage of the services was paired up with a navigator. I was volunteering as a navigator (along with the Americorps kids and about 1000 other people).
It was a great success! We had about 1500 guests show up so it was a busy busy day. I stayed with one person for the 5 hours that I was there. He was so smart and very interested in politics. I really enjoyed just chatting with him.
After a morning of meaningful volunteering, I headed home to catch up on sleep. But not before walking around outside a little bit on Creighton's campus.
It was such a beautiful day and the campus was alive with students. I enjoyed it so much I was almost able to forget how much I hate their basketball team.
Friday night I knew I wanted to prep, as best as possible for my long run on Saturday. Last week, my 17 was so painful, so I knew this week I had to do things right. I cooked a huge and very yummy spaghetti dinner to carb up. In the sauce, I added many many veggies: eggplant, green peppers, celery, tomatoes, and red onion. It was so delicious.
This morning I was ready to go. Earlier this week I bought some Shot Blocks and a handheld water bottle, so nothing was slowing me down this weekend. I love buying new things for running.
And my run went just as hoped for. Much much much better than last week! My splits weren't great, but I ran pretty constantly. And another long run is in the books. 18 - done and done.

Thank goodness I only have two more long runs until the marathon (19 and 20 miles). Because my legs are in no condition to do any sort of movement, I will be spending the rest of my night cuddled up with Colby.
Have a great Saturday night everyone!
