A Different Kind of Holiday

So Thanksgiving is tomorrow...and I love Thanksgiving. A normal Thanksgiving for me usually consists of family and food overload (the good kind of overload).

It begins in the early afternoon, when I head to Rock Creek to eat and spend time with Matthew's family. This is usually a semi-potluck of amazing food. But in all truthfulness, my favorite thing is the dessert table.

Some of the family at the beach this past year.

It is not uncommon for me to stuff my face and leave with Matthew having to practically roll me out. We then head over to my house. At my house we usually hang out and watch football while my mom and grandma cook dinner.

I love my family's Thanksgiving dinner: turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, rolls, mashed potatoes made out of the magic purple bowl (God rest it's soul), and my grandma's famous noodles and gravy (my mouth is literally watering as I write this). I usually can't breathe I'm so full at the end of the day.

But this Thanksgiving is going to be different. Its almost like my first grown-up Thanksgiving and kind of sad. I will be staying here in Omaha with Matthew (which is exciting because it will be our first Thanksgiving together just the two of us and we will get to cook everything), but I know we are both pretty sad that we can't spend this time with family and friends in NC (and that one that lives across the pond).

So this Thanksgiving is going to be a different kind of holiday, but I am sure we will try to find a way to make it special. If nothing else, the posts to come about cooking in our TINY kitchen will be interesting enough.

I hope you cherish this time with your family and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
