A New Member.

So I know I've been MIA lately, things have just gotten so crazy around here in Omaha! I started work two weeks ago and I've been nonstop ever since. I am working at UNMC (the University of Nebraska Medical Center), basically doing research for the service learning department in the School of Public Health.

The Maurer School of Public Health, where I go to work everyday.
My exact position is still getting worked out so things have been off to somewhat of a slow start, but I feel optimistic. The UNMC campus itself is absolutely gorgeous (it even has a skating rink in the middle for when it gets cold!) and I will make sure to take some pictures of the area and my little cubicle to post later. But enough about work...

I am still trying to learn the area and Matthew and I have been out and about exploring as much as possible. Last weekend we took a walk on the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge (post with pictures to come soon) which is a bridge that connects Nebraska to Iowa. We've also tried to test out a few new restaurants in the Old Market area, but my newest and most exciting (so far) discovery has been the local YMCA! As strange as that sounds, I am really excited to be a new member of the YMCA of Greater Omaha! Because of my work circumstances I was able to get a reduced membership and joined last week with two of my friends from work.

The best part is that it is literally one block away from my apartment, about a 2 minute walk down the street!

The girls and I have already tried to take advantage of our new membership. We first tried the kickboxing class (always my favorite class at Carolina), but were somewhat disappointed by that particular class...then tried the Zumba and absolutely loved the group, the instructor, everything! We will definitely be returning AND even more exciting, during the month of September the Y is offering outdoor free Zumba classes three days a week by the same instructor, so I am sure we will be taking a lot of Zumba this month. I am also excited about trying the cycling and H.I.T (High Intensity Training) classes as well. And of course I am sure I'll try out a different kickboxing class, just because I love it so much :).

I am still training for the half marathon (coming up in less than a month!) but five days a week of running needs to be broken up with a couple of cross training sessions every now and then and I think my new membership at the Y will be the perfect fit!
