Exploring the City

Over the last couple of days Matthew and I have been exploring Omaha. Its a nice city, but the first couple of days everything seemed so empty and deserted. There are so many huge office buildings with tons of windows, I still find it hard to believe that they are all occupied. We've gone on a couple of long runs and made it to a few new restaurants but there is still so much more exploring left to do! Here are just a couple of things you can see walking around downtown Omaha:

My apartment building! Its located on the southwest side of downtown (I think) and within walkable distance of just about anything. Its called City View, a decent looking building on the outside but very nice inside. As you can see from the post yesterday, everything inside was redone a few years ago and the inside is in surprisingly good condition.

These are a few example of some of the structures downtown. These is a lot of art that decorates the city, again another surprise because the city seems pretty old and I associate art and modern architecture with new and growing.

These four pictures show my favorite place in the whole city. Its called the Old Market area and Matthew and I walk down there at least once a day. The best part is that it is about 7 blocks away or a 10-15 min walk. The area is filled with beautiful old brick buildings, open air restaurants, live music on the streets, and a great sense of community. I love love LOVE this area. On Saturday, Matthew and I even made it to the local Farmer's Market.

It was such a beautiful morning and everyone seemed to have the same idea that we did. A Saturday morning at the Farmer's Market is a perfect way to start the weekend! We were able to pick up a basket of fresh tomatoes, homemade salsa, a few zucchini, an eggplant, and a bag of homemade dog biscuits (something for Colby of course).

Hopefully this is just the beginning of the new adventures in Omaha. The weather is so nice right now, warm in the upper 70's with NO humidity. I hope it stays this way a little longer, I'm sure I'll be writing about snow before too long.
